Urbana District Park (UDP): The new park will be located north of the Villages of Urbana (VOU) on the east side of Rt. 355 to Tabler Road. The park is approximately 100 acres which will include 6 new athletic fields and many other community amenities.
The park has been planned for over 10 years. Currently $7.4 million is allocated in the Frederick County budget for phase 1 of the park construction.
Current Update: SFCYAF members opened a dialogue with Frederick County Parks and Recreation and the Maryland State Highway Administration (SHA) regarding the status on the UDP.
The park is currently in the hands of the SHA while Frederick County P&R (FCPR) awaits the final permits for the park entrance off of Rt. 355. Since April we have corresponded back and forth with SHA & FCPR on the status. All feedback points to a final approval being received in October/November of 2008.
Next Steps: Once approvals are received, Frederick County will bid the construction work in late 2008 and proceed with the construction in early 2009. Let’s hope their current time estimates proves to be correct!
