Novemeber Update (SFYAF President, Tim Mellott)
The two new multi-purpose fields at Urbana High are all but complete. We are within a few days of completion. There are many tasks and obstacles still to deal with but we are well on our way.  On the Board of Education property adjacent to the two new fields, we have built a new baseball diamond. This field will be used by the Urbana High Baseball team as well as Urbana Baseball. The infield dirt was delivered in the last two weeks and we are close to completing the outfield.

The Urbana District Park is on track for construction to start in the early part of 2009. On a positive note, the money currently allocated for construction should be able to complete more of the park than originally anticipated due to the competitive nature of our economy.

Fund raising continues to be a challenge in this tough economy but we are definitely making some progress towards paying off our bills to the engineering firm that did the mass grading plan. I will be notified in the next couple of weeks about the grants that we applied for to support our efforts. Keep your fingers crossed.

In addition, we will be forwarding to all of you a SFCYAF one page brochure that each of you can use to better tell our story and stimulate others to give to the new fields. Lastly, we have 200 SFCYAF sweatshirts for sale. The logo is embroidered on the front and the website on the back. They are very cool. Look for the email on how to purchase them. This is a tax deductible purchase and all proceeds will be deposited into our Fund at the Community Foundation.

Summary: Jim McKeever, Roy Taylor and Martin Bucher (Loiederman Soltesz Associates, Inc.) and Tim Mellott present to the BoCC. The meeting was productive and outlined a few critical items that we need to complete which will satisfy all regulatory requirements to grade the new fields. We are working diligently with our partners, Frederick County Government and Loiederman to address each and every item.

Frederick County Government and Loiederman have made an extraordinary effort thus far in helping us complete this collaborative and innovative approach to build fields in Southern Frederick County. We believe Frederick County Government wants this project to happen. They have been great Teammates!
