Southern Frederick County Youth Athletic Facilities (SFCYAF)
, a community based advocacy group created to insure our children have adequate fields and facilities to participate in youth sports.

 

Mission: To advocate for, identify and develop new youth athletic fields and facilities for the existing sports organizations in southern FrederickCounty.

 

 

Fast Facts about the Urbana Region

 

  • In 2000, the region's population was 10,686 and at the end of 2007 it was 18,622. The population increased by 7,936
     

  • Since 2000, the population of the Urbana region has grown by 74.2%.
     

  • The Urbana region has had the fastest population growth out of all the Frederick County regions since 2000.
     

  • The region has the highest projected growth rate in Frederick County out to 2030.
     

  • Maryland State guidelines suggest that County Governments provide citizens with 25 acres of recreational parkland for every 1000 people.
     

  • The average parkland acreage for the 8 Frederick county regions is approximately 17 acres per 1000 people as of 2005.
     

  • Currently in the Urbana Region there is 6.3 acres of parkland per 1000 people. This represents 25.2% of the State guidelines.
     

  • Upon completion of the UrbanaDistrictPark the Urbana region will have approximately 12 acres per 1000 people. This represents 48% of the State guidelines.
     

  • Upon completion of the new fields behind UrbanaHigh School the Urbana region will have approximately 13 acres per 1000 people.
     

  • Frederick County’s Parkland Acquisition priorities are based on:

  1. Current population

  2. Projected population growth

  3. Public input

  4. Facility needs
